In a significant boost to India’s renewable energy landscape, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has successfully commissioned NHPC Limited’s flagship solar project in Karnisar Bhatiyan, Bikaner, Rajasthan. The large-scale installation, rated at 450 MWp (DC) / 300 MW (AC), is fully DCR-compliant, reaffirming India’s push to strengthen domestic solar manufacturing and reduce reliance on imported components.
A Landmark Project for India’s Clean Power Ambitions
As the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for the project, TPREL oversaw the development of one of the region’s most technically demanding solar facilities. Nestled in Rajasthan’s intense desert conditions, the project makes use of high-efficiency Indian-made solar modules and advanced system design, demonstrating the capability of domestic technologies at industrial scale.
The solar plant is expected to supply substantial clean power to the grid and contribute meaningfully to India’s long-term climate commitments by reducing carbon emissions over its lifetime.
Strengthening India’s Renewable Energy Infrastructure
The commissioning highlights three key strengths of India’s renewable sector:
- Domestic Manufacturing Capability: The project meets DCR (Domestic Content Requirement) norms, signaling strong confidence in India-made solar modules and supporting the country’s goal of solar manufacturing self-sufficiency.
- Utility-Scale Readiness: At 300 MW capacity, the project adds critical volume to India’s fast-expanding solar portfolio, helping utilities and state discoms transition toward cleaner energy sources.
- Regional Economic Benefits: Construction of the plant generated employment for local workers and created opportunities for regional vendors, bringing economic value to the Bikaner area.
A Step Forward in NHPC and TPREL’s Green Strategy
For NHPC—traditionally known for hydropower—the project marks another step into large-scale solar development. For TPREL, it strengthens its position as one of India’s most dependable partners for utility-grade renewable projects.
TPREL’s renewable portfolio continues to expand significantly, and this project adds further momentum to its mission of enabling India’s clean-energy transition.
A Boost for India’s Path to Sustainability
With solar energy becoming a key pillar of India’s decarbonization strategy, the successful commissioning of NHPC’s 300 MW solar project in Rajasthan represents more than just an engineering achievement—it underscores the country’s growing confidence in its clean-energy ecosystem.
By combining large-scale execution, domestic technology, and strategic collaboration, TPREL and NHPC have set a new benchmark for renewable energy projects in India.
